Branding assignment

   Turkish Restaurant

This week's creative journey takes us to work on branding a restaurant. The cuisine should have a strong palette of unique flavors. Describe the restaurant: the food, the atmosphere, the dining experience, the anticipated audience, and anything that makes it unique. Think of the vision and mission of the restaurant. Try to envision the entire dining experience from a first-person point of view. The more thoroughly I can describe, and mentally experience the restaurant, the easier it will be to create a truly, memorable brand.

Envisioning a restaurant specializing in Turkish cuisine requires immersing oneself in the rich, diverse, and aromatic world of Turkey's culinary heritage. This restaurant, named "Anatolian Aromas," aims to transport its guests to the heart of Turkey through its flavors, ambiance, and hospitality, embodying the country's ancient tradition of warmth and generosity.

Vision and Mission

Vision: To become the gateway to Turkish culture through its culinary heritage, offering an authentic dining experience that celebrates the rich flavors, vibrant history, and warm hospitality of Turkey.

Mission: To provide an unforgettable journey through Turkey's diverse regions with our meticulously crafted menu, enchanting atmosphere, and exceptional service, making every visit a cherished memory.

The Food

Anatolian Aromas offers a menu that is a mosaic of flavors, each dish telling a story of regions, traditions, and the hands that have passed down recipes through generations. The cuisine is a testament to the simplicity and richness of Turkish ingredients, where the flavors of freshly baked bread, succulent meats, vibrant spices, and seasonal vegetables and fruits come to life.

Signature Dishes:

  • Meze Platter: A vibrant selection of small dishes such as hummus, muhammara, ezme, and stuffed grape leaves, perfect for sharing and starting the dining journey.
  • Kebaps: Expertly grilled meats, including lamb, beef, and chicken, marinated with unique spices and served with lavash bread, sumac onions, and grilled tomatoes.
  • Seafood Delights: Reflecting Turkey's coastal bounty, dishes like grilled sea bass, octopus salad, and shrimp güveç offer a taste of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas.
  • Vegetarian Specialties: A rich selection of vegetable-based dishes such as imam bayildi, stuffed bell peppers, and artichoke bottoms in olive oil.
  • Desserts: Decadent sweets like baklava, künefe, and Turkish delight, paired with traditional Turkish tea or coffee, conclude the meal on a high note.

The Atmosphere

Anatolian Aromas is designed to evoke the feeling of dining in a Turkish home, blending traditional and modern elements. The décor features intricate Iznik tiles, warm, earthy tones, and soft, inviting lighting, creating a cozy and welcoming environment. Traditional Turkish music plays softly in the background, adding to the immersive experience.

The Dining Experience

From the moment guests step into Anatolian Aromas, they are greeted with the warmth and hospitality synonymous with Turkish culture. The dining experience is designed to be communal and interactive, encouraging guests to share dishes and stories, and fostering a sense of community and belonging.

The Anticipated Audience

Anatolian Aromas appeals to a wide audience, including food enthusiasts, families, couples, and professionals looking for an authentic dining experience. It aims to attract those who appreciate culinary exploration and cultural immersion, offering a unique destination for celebrations, casual gatherings, and special occasions.

Uniqueness

What sets Anatolian Aromas apart is its commitment to authenticity, sustainability, and community. The restaurant sources its ingredients from local producers and Turkish suppliers, ensuring the highest quality and authenticity. Regular cultural events, cooking classes, and live music nights offer guests more than just a meal but a journey through Turkey's rich cultural tapestry.

First-Person Experience

Walking into Anatolian Aromas, the aromas of spices and freshly baked bread envelop me, instantly transporting me to a bustling Turkish bazaar. The warm greeting from the staff makes me feel at home as I'm led to my table, adorned with colorful ceramics. Choosing from the diverse menu is an adventure in itself, each dish promising a burst of flavor and a story of its origin. The meze arrives, a kaleidoscope of colors and textures, followed by succulent kebaps and a comforting, aromatic stew. Each bite is a revelation, blending familiar and exotic flavors. The meal ends with a sweet note of baklava and strong Turkish coffee, leaving me satisfied and already planning my next visit. This isn't just a meal; it's an experience, a memory, a piece of Turkey I can carry with me.

This detailed envisioning of Anatolian Aromas provides a solid foundation for creating a brand that is as rich and memorable as the dining experience it aims to offer.

Now that I have the direction I want to go in the next step is to create a logo and name for the restaurant.

Infographics project

 LIVING GREEN

For this week's project, I had the opportunity to contribute to "Living Green" magazine, a publication dedicated to the many facets of environmental conservation. The heart of the issue featured articles that explored diverse angles of sustainability, and my task was to bring life to the provided data through the creation of infographics. These visual elements are set to enhance the narratives within the magazine. Venturing beyond my comfort zone, which was previously limited to crafting graphs in Excel, I found the process of designing these infographics to be a delightful and enlightening experience.

Self-Portrait

 SELF-PORTRAIT

This week's creative endeavor required us to dive into Adobe Illustrator, specifically utilizing the gradient mesh tool, to craft an 8 x 10-inch self-portrait at 300 dpi. Embarking on this project was particularly challenging for me, as I'm not someone who frequently captures or shares personal photos. However, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. We're in the process of personalizing my home office, and this assignment is seamlessly integrated into the "Love Me Wall" we're designing. The task pushed me out of my comfort zone, blending my novice Illustrator skills with the intimate process of self-reflection and representation, making for a meaningful addition to our home décor.

Before Picture

                                                                    After Picture

I began by transforming a photo of myself into a black-and-white version, setting the stage to convert it into a vector format. I used another background layer, inverted the colors, applied gaussian blur. After achieving the monochrome effect, I applied various masks and filters to sculpt the image further. Despite these efforts, the outcome still bore a striking resemblance to reality, diverging from my goal of achieving a more sketch art appearance with pronounced, thicker edges. This is a project that will continue until I achieve to look that I want.

Creativity Exercise IX

  THE ULTIMATE DESK

Another week, our class engaged in a stimulating creativity exercise, drawing inspiration from either an online platform or a book dedicated to nurturing creativity in educational settings. The objective was to immerse ourselves in a creative task and then compose an insightful blog post reflecting on the experience and the lessons gleaned from it. Our particular challenge was to imagine the Ultimate desk with a ("money no object") and see what we came up with. We were given a brisk five-minute window to brainstorm as many ideas as we could.

This is what my team came up with:

1. Massage chair

2. Desk goes wherever you are

3. Built-in outlets

4. Lots of monitors with surround sound

5. Built-in AI

6. Built-in food prep (like Star Trek)

7. Hypoallergenic

8. Lights

Letter fold brochure

 The Painted Turtle

I thoroughly enjoyed working on The Painted Turtle project. This initiative is dedicated to creating a transformative, year-round camp experience for children who are dealing with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The Painted Turtle not only caters to the medical requirements of these children but also motivates them to look beyond their health challenges. It offers comprehensive care and educational support, while also providing respite for their families. Remarkably, all services are provided to the campers and their families at no cost. Our recent task involved designing a tri-fold brochure that can be distributed at events, sent through mail, or displayed in rack-card holders.

Patriotic Design

In this week's blog post, I'm excited to delve into a project that has been my focus since August 2023. The project was commissioned by a client who has a strong connection to the military, primarily through his business of relocating military families across the country. He wanted this military affiliation to be the central theme of the design.

However, one of the initial challenges we faced was the client's desire to incorporate an overwhelming number of elements into the design. It became evident that we needed to pare down these elements to achieve a more cohesive and effective composition. To navigate this, I engaged in a thorough discussion with the client, differentiating between what elements were absolutely essential ('must-haves') and those that were merely preferred ('nice-to-haves').

After several rounds of back-and-forth and meticulous work on the composition, we finally arrived at a design that not only looked good but also took into consideration practical aspects like ensuring the vinyl print's seams wouldn't disrupt the overall design. The project has been a journey of collaboration and creative problem-solving, and I'm eager to share the insights and outcomes of this endeavor with you all.

The final approved rendering

Next week I will put the rendering of a picture of the semi-truck to ensure we have enough bleed when printing a cutting between the door gaps.

7 Deadly Sins

 The 7 Deadly Sins

In this week's blog, I'm excited to share our latest project, which centered around a fascinating and challenging theme: The Seven Deadly Sins. These sins, namely pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth, have long been a subject of intrigue in various forms of art and literature.

Our task was to illustrate one of these deadly sins, but here's the twist: we couldn't use any text. This restriction really pushed our creative boundaries, forcing us to delve deep into the essence of the sin we chose to portray. We had to explore various artistic expressions and think about the myriad ways each sin could be visually represented.

It was an exercise in subtlety and symbolism, requiring a thoughtful approach to convey a complex concept without the crutch of words. The experience was enlightening, challenging us to communicate powerful ideas through purely visual means. Stay tuned for the illustrations and the unique interpretations each of us brought to this project!

Here is my 7 Deadly sin. Can you guess what it is?

For my contribution to the project, I chose to take a different approach. Instead of surrounding the character with an excessive amount of food, which seemed like the obvious choice, I opted for a more subtle depiction of gluttony. I illustrated the character with just a single item on the plate – a massive burger where you cant see his face. However, the key element in this portrayal is the character's expression, which is one of intense longing, clearly indicating his thoughts are on acquiring even more food. This approach allowed me to convey the essence of gluttony through the character's insatiable desire rather than through an overt display of excessive food.
