Self-Portrait

 SELF-PORTRAIT

This week's creative endeavor required us to dive into Adobe Illustrator, specifically utilizing the gradient mesh tool, to craft an 8 x 10-inch self-portrait at 300 dpi. Embarking on this project was particularly challenging for me, as I'm not someone who frequently captures or shares personal photos. However, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. We're in the process of personalizing my home office, and this assignment is seamlessly integrated into the "Love Me Wall" we're designing. The task pushed me out of my comfort zone, blending my novice Illustrator skills with the intimate process of self-reflection and representation, making for a meaningful addition to our home décor.

I began by transforming a photo of myself into a black-and-white version, setting the stage to convert it into a vector format. I used another background layer, inverted the colors, applied gaussian blur. After achieving the monochrome effect, I applied various masks and filters to sculpt the image further. Despite these efforts, the outcome still bore a striking resemblance to reality, diverging from my goal of achieving a more sketch art appearance with pronounced, thicker edges. This is a project that will continue until I achieve to look that I want.
